Counting Tabs

 Archie Kontuk is passionate about pop tabs. That's because of what he can do with them. It takes 3,000,000 pop tabs to buy a wheelchair. And over 22 years, he's been able to collect enough to help 22 people gain mobility and independence. That's a huge commitment - fueled by an even bigger heart 

 Who is Archie Kontuk 

 As a child, Archie used a wheelchair for 12 years. Through determination, he learned to walk, but never forgot what it felt like to need one. In 1983, Archie heard about a family who was collecting pop tabs to raise money to buy a wheelchair for their daughter. A collector by nature, Archie quickly gathered 8,000 pop tabs for them - and hasn't stopped since.

How Peaceful River Campground is connected with Archie.

Each camping season, we collect pop tabs for Archie. The 2019 season we were able to collect 55,000 pop tabs and we are targeting to collect more and more each year.

How can you help

Start a collection, whether at home, school, work where you volunteer or enjoy recreation - wherever you can place a collection jar, pop tabs can be collected! As Archie says, "Your can, your money. I'll take the tabs."
